The Echo Show 16 is Amazon's newest smart display, and a ZDNET writer says it may be the device that finally gets them to adopt a smart calendar. The writer, who has used an Echo Show 5, says Amazon describes the new Show as offering a family hub with color-coded schedules, to-do lists, and meal planning.
The writer says the device has 10% more viewing area than the Echo Show 15 and a frame almost 40% thinner. It has a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera, which the writer reports as the widest field of view on any Echo Show to date. According to Amazon, this doubles the range of Visual ID from 8 feet to 17 feet, compared with the previous generation. The device also adds night vision.
The writer says the Echo Show 16 starts at $500, or closer to $600 with accessories or the anti-glare Nanomatte display. The writer notes that a $100 coupon was available at the time of writing, which would bring the price to $400. The writer compares the price to the 15-inch Skylight calendar, which the writer says costs about half as much.
