NASA is asking private companies to propose ways to extend the life of the Hubble Space Telescope, according to a post on the agency's website. Administrator Jared Isaacman said Hubble "still has important science ahead of it" and that the agency should explore "innovative and cost-effective ways to extend the life of an asset already on orbit."
The source reports that Hubble will fall to Earth sometime in the 2030s without a boost to its orbit. It also says the telescope is not in immediate danger of burning up in the atmosphere.
NASA has opened a Request for Information for these proposals. It will remain open through November 30 at 3 PM ET.
