Macronix, a memory chip supplier for Nintendo's Switch cartridges, is phasing out its ROM production, according to a report from Taipei Times. The company announced the change during its Q3 2026 earnings call.

Macronix chairman and CEO Miin Wu said demand for NOR flash memory in data centers is "very robust," and that customers are "chasing us for more capacity." The company also expects chip price hikes to persist, the report says.

Macronix's ROM revenue fell 39 percent year over year in Q3 2026. Its NOR revenue rose 158 percent, and its NAND revenue rose 768 percent over the same period.

Nintendo has not announced a response in the source material. The report notes that Nintendo said recently it has "no plans" to stop producing physical games. Nintendo also said in August that physical titles made up 38.5 percent of its game sales.
