Microsoft has begun rolling out a Windows 11 preview update, KB5127936, that adds a "customize menu" button to the right-click menu. Users can toggle built-in commands such as Send To or Create Shortcut, rearrange items on the main menu, and choose which third-party extensions appear in the main menu or submenus. The update is cumulative for Windows 11 versions 26H2 and 25H2. It will reach devices gradually before a general rollout after it becomes generally available.
The preview also introduces Cloud Rebuild, a recovery option that reinstalls Windows 11 directly from the cloud, even when a PC fails to boot. According to the report, Cloud Rebuild pulls the Windows 11 image and needed system drivers from Windows Update, so users do not need a custom recovery image or external media. The report notes that Microsoft classifies Cloud Rebuild as a recovery option, but it behaves more like a fresh install than a repair. Existing applications and files are not included. Users concerned about data security can sanitize their system drives before reinstalling.
The update's timing coincides with Microsoft's quarterly financial report. CFO Amy Hood said Windows OEM revenue "was below expectations and decreased 27% and 28% in constant currency," citing the prior year's Windows 10 end-of-support demand, inventory drawdowns by OEM and channel partners, and weaker PC market demand. Hood said, "we expect these trends to continue through the rest of the fiscal year." The broader Windows OEM and devices category, which includes Surface, fell 22 percent, according to the earnings release. Microsoft said recent hardware, including the Surface Laptop Ultra and the RTX Spark platform, arrived too late in the quarter to appear in the results.
Azure revenue rose 48 percent, and Microsoft Cloud revenue grew 30 percent year over year. The report states that Microsoft Cloud makes up roughly 70 percent of the company's $92.3 billion total quarterly revenue.
