The AI-generated sci-fi film Gods Don't Give Gifts will add pop star Grimes to its cast, according to The Verge. Grimes will lend her likeness and vocal performance to the movie. The film releases December 4th and is billed as "the first AI film to come to theatres."

AI studio Fable is producing the film. In a press release, Fable said that "casting the likeness of an actor with their spoken vocal performance will become more common with animated films using AI." Jack London, who goes by the online handle Gossip Goblin, is directing.

The film is an anthology set in a future "where bodies are disposable and consciousness has been commoditized." According to the report, its four interconnected stories depict "the horrifying consequences of humanity's attempt to transcend the flesh." The report notes that these themes align with Grimes' past work on transhumanism and artificial intelligence. She is also working on an AI-themed album called Psy Opera, the report says.

The Verge reports that prior AI-made adaptations, including two takes on The Odyssey, one made with Elon Musk's Grok, "have left plenty to be desired."
